Being one of the partner organizations of the “Open Data Estafette” conference on Renewable Energy, my client Enexis together with Grid Operator Liander had the idea of organizing a hackathon on the subject. Meaning: going beyond the talks of the conference (mainly public servants) and towards creating innovative solutions with open data. For this idea Enexis asked for my help.

Social Game for Smart Energy “Ice Cream Ohmmeter”

In just 48 hours we put together a working prototype of the “Ice Cream Ohmmeter”: an app that makes Energy Savings seriously fun. The Energy Data that is used in the app, is provided by the Ectual P1-device that we created at Enexis. The Ectual is a cheap device with an Open API that makes Energy Data easily available to any app or website.

Spotify Jukebox using NFC and RFID

We won 2 prizes again at The Next Web Hack Battle. This time with “Bring Your Own Music”: personalized Spotify Music Cards using NFC and RFID. We used a network-connected Arduino coupled with an NFC Reader, a custom Spotify App, the Spotify API, a PHP front-end and Apigee for the data back-end.

On-line platform

For my client BLiS Web & Mobile I did Project and Technical Management of, the new on-line platform for sports in the city of Dordrecht area.

Besides the overall management of the project and coordinating with the client, the ‘Sportbedrijf’ Department of the Municipality of Dordrecht, I made the Software Architecture of the platform. This using BLiS’ proprietary Content Management System called the BlisEngine, resembling Expression Engine and using HTML5, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL.

Proof-of-concept Open Street Map Front-end

For the start-up Social Intern I created a proof-of-concept for the front-end mapping interface, using JavaScript, jQuery and Open Street Map (OSM).

Proof-of-concept Back-end for Pebble Smartwatch

For Pebble Smartwatch (former inPulse Smartwatch) I created a proof-of-concept of their new user account front-end and back-end, using the messaging and data persistence API of, Ruby on Rails and native Android.

Social game for Smart Energy “Electric Vampires”

At the The Next Web conference’s Hack Battle we won 2 prizes with a prototype of the social game Electric Vampires. The game is aimed at children, helping them understand ‘energy’ and energy savings.

Our team won the ‘most creative project’ and the 3rd overall prize.

Website for KinderKunstFABRIEK

For the voluntary organization KinderKunstFABRIEK I created a website, for free. The design was made by a hired freelance designer, the HTML and CSS by coders in India ( and I implemented the back-end in PHP and the Expression Engine Content Management System.
